CALL FOR PITCHES

SO WHO ARE YOU?

Hi, we’re Nobell Foods. We make animal-free cheese that melts.

AND WHAT IS THIS?

It’s Slay Cheese, the International Journal of Pizza Culture.

OK, “WHY” IS THIS?

We launched Slay Cheese because we’ve noticed a giant pizza-shaped hole in journalism.

Being makers of fine animal-free cheeses that melt, we’re constantly looking for pizza intelligence and reporting that can help us perfect our mozzarella.

But when searching for the intel we need, we’ve routinely come up short. And if we’re coming up short, we assume there are a whole lot of people out there with a similar experience.

So we thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool if there was this amazing newsletter written by passionate individuals and solely dedicated to exploring the wide, wild world of pizza culture?”

ALRIGHT, I’M INTERESTED, WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

We are currently accepting pitches from anyone who has ever reveled in a hot and melty pie. That includes writers, journalists, pull performers, drip connoisseurs, and everyday pizza people.

If you have something interesting to say about pizza, or access to rare pizza intel, we want to hear from you.

GO ON…

Here’s a list of some of our recent searches that both Google and ChatGPT blanked on:

  • “Detailed scientific breakdown of the ideal way to reheat a day-old slice of pizza”

  • “Top 10 convenience store slices on the I-95”

  • “Climate Impact of Stuffed Crust Pizza”

  • “Dream analysis of pizza eaters who pass out on the couch after pounding a 2-for-1”

  • “The emotional journey of eating Italy’s worst slice of pizza”

  • “The Invite-only pizzerias of Ohio”

  • “Korean Pizza Fashion Trends”

  • “Industrial Design History of the insulated pizza delivery bag”

  • “Can you get a decent deep dish in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia?”

  • “Magical Realism and the Argentinian Fugazzeta”

SO WHAT IF WANTED TO PITCH YOU A LONG-FORM EXPOSÉ ON HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IS AFFECTING THE PIZZERIAS OF GREENLAND?

An emphatic YES. If it’s interesting and about pizza, we’re all ears.

WHAT ABOUT AN INTERVIEW WITH MY BUDDY SAL, WHO JUST REALLY LOVES A TASTY SLICE?

Yes. We want you to pitch us gonzo interviews with pizzaiolos and pizza-eaters alike.  We need marinara missives and dispatches from the delivery van.  Pizza is a universal dish beloved on every corner of this beautiful planet of ours. It transcends being a mere food and is a cultural zeitgeist unto itself. How we make it, how we eat it, and the cheese we melt all over it, is reflective of where we come from and how we relate to the world around us. That includes your buddy Sal's love of a tasty slice.

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, IS THIS A PAID GIG?

Yes, we pay a standard rate of $ 0.50 a word, with an increased rate for long-form pieces that require original reporting or photography.

OK, I’M IN, HOW DO I PITCH YOU?

Send your article ideas to slaycheese@nobellfoods.com. Please keep your summaries short and sweet with a focus on who or what you would like to write about; when you can deliver the article; and why you’re the perfect fit to take it on.

If an editor wants to proceed with your pitch, you will receive a follow-up email, usually within a week or two. This email will include the pay rate, deadline, some gentle voice guidelines, and any adjustments needed to the format, length, or scope of the pitch.
